Superstars Behaving Badly

This weekend saw two major “superstars” demonstrate yet again that celebrities really are no different than 3rd graders.  The first was Serena Williams at the US Open.  While this is her first major flub of this sort, she embarked on a new era in her career with the flare of a John McEnroe.  It was impressive.  About to lose in the second set, Williams melted down and went on a tirade of epic proportions causing her to be disqualified for profanity and an alleged comment about “killing the chair umpire.”  Ignored in the story is the fact that she was about to lose anyway.  She was sitting on a double match point and was about to be bounced from the tournament.  Guess she got in her two cents on the way out the door or maybe she was just trying to boost her “street cred” as she prepares to unveil a new clothing line.

The second major celebrity scuff up this weekend occurred at the always educational MTV Music Awards the VMA’s.  As youngin Taylor Swift was in the middle of accepting her award for best video, ever the patriot Kanye West jumped on stage and yanked the mic from her hand.  He preceded to rant about how Beyonce had made one of the best videos in history – as if there was an accurate way to measure such things or if anyone really cared what this crazy loon really thinks.   It was ridiculous to say the least.  If you are having trouble remembering who Kanye West is; he is that wonderful rapper who in Post-Katrina hijacked a telethon to tell the American people that President Bush “didn’t care about black people.”  So what I’m saying is; he’s a grrreeeeaaat guy.

The videos of Serena and Kanye have been taken down so I’ve posted  a video of Kanye’s rant against Bush.  Even Chris Tucker and Mike Meyers didn’t know what to say as they cut away from this nut.

These are his wonderful reflections upon his telethon remarks.

Beyonce was a class act at the end by giving the stage up to Taylor Swift although it felt a little too planned.

Much agreed. Although the matching dresses the two wore did make it seem a bit like the Borat gang descending from the rafters and landing conveniently in the lap of Eminem. Brought some big exposure to all involved and reminded Americans that MTV existed – even if for one night.
