The Supreme Court took some time out of their busy schedule Tuesday to pose for their first group picture with the addition of newly confirmed Justice Sonia Sotomayor.  As you can see Justice Sotomayor was positioned on the Right side of the photo behind Justices Scalia and Thomas.  This will likely be the last time she is on the same side as these two for any occasion.

When they get back to look, here is some of what will be on their docket when this term begins October 5th.

Salazar v. Buono - October – a case involving a cross erected in a national park (Mojave’s National Preserve) – ACLU won in the lower courts with rulings claiming it was a display of a Christian symbol and violated the 1st Amendment Establishment Clause – monument is a war memorial.

American Needle v. NFL -  January – a case to determine if the 32 NFL teams can operate as a single entity under antitrust law regarding merchandising and apparel sales.

Department of Defense v. ACLU – Freedom of Information Act case related to photos of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan – judges ordered release / Obama appealed – arguing they could adversely endanger US Troops
