Update – Rio de Jeneiro is the winner – First South American city to host the olympics. Let the building begin. Reports are that cruise ships docked in port will be used to accomodate visitors in a city with a shortage on hotel rooms. Should be fun.

The AP and Fox News are reporting that the bid to host the Olympics of 2016 in Chicago has been shot down. The announcement came earlier today as the President was preparing to return to Washington. The IOC chairman announced that two cities were out of the running – Tokyo and Chicago – and an announcement of the final choice is expected later today.
The poor president just can’t seem to catch a break these days can he? He must have lost his mojo somewhere back in June or July when he was on that apology tour of the globe and busy cramming socialism down the throat of all Americans domestically. I have to say that while I was one of the small minority of conservatives who liked the idea of having an Olympics here, I am glad to once again see this man humbled a bit. Its a shame that the games won’t be here…for two reasons actually. 1. we do everything better and no one likes watching crap quality footage from random Latin American countries or Europe – we’ve all seen Telemundo soccer and British Open Golf – the coverage sucks. 2. It would have been to have it here, because then maybe some of us would have watched it. The lack of the American audience means the lack of the American commercial enterprise – which means a huge financial hit for the games. In a nutshell, I am actually quite surprised that the IOC shot us down, but I guess the Chosen One is too.
COPENHAGEN – Chicago was eliminated in the first ballot of voting for the 2016 Olympics on Friday, a stunning defeat for President Obama who put his capital behind an enormous campaign.
Chicago had seemed to pick up momentum in the last few days, with many International Olympic Committee members seemingly charmed by Michelle Obama. But when IOC president Jacques Rogge announced the results of the first vote, Chicago’s name was announced.
Obama’s visit to Copenhagen was the first time a U.S. president made such an in-person appeal.
“I urge you to choose Chicago for the same reasons I chose Chicago nearly 25 years ago — the reasons I fell in love with the city I still call home,” Obama told members of the International Olympic Committee, many of whom he later mingled with as some snapped photos of him on their cell phones.
“And if you do — if we walk this path together — then I promise you this: The city of Chicago and the United States of America will make the world proud,” the president said.
Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo have been making their cases to the IOC for more than a year, but many IOC members were believed to be undecided about which city they would vote for Friday.

Just a week after speaking at a global summit on climate change our wonderful President is demonstrating that Liberals only expect everyone else to play by their rules. In true Al Gore-ish fashion he flew halfway around the world yesterdayto help bolster the city of Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
With Afghanistan and healthcare on the back-burner, the President decided it was time to take a quick little one day family vacation to Copenhagen, Denmark to use his celebrity to push for the Olympics to come to the United States. Again, this is the same President who just spoke about reducing the carbon footprint and then hopped on a plane – to burn jet fuel and tax payer money in the interest of fighting a battle most believe is already lost with the games expected to be awarded to South America for the first time.
Now, I for one could care less about the jet fuel. I can actually even admit I am glad he’s going. I love sports and I love the Olympics. I’d love to see them here. I just think its a load of crap that libs are applauding this move. Unless they suddenly all became sportsfans overnight, I’m not sure why they are so pumped about this move, but I guess I never really understand them anyways. So whats new?
