I guess after two months of getting shot-down on every front, the President tried to return the favor this week by snubbing the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, as he visited the US.  It has become a tradition for the President to welcome him at the White House whenever he is stateside, but the White House is trying to downplay the move as if such a visit was never on the table.

The decision by the White House to not meet with the Dalai Lama is clearly an attempt to curry favor with China.  As we are attempting to gain their support both in Iran and Afghanistan, this appears to be a major play at opening up new dialog with a nation that sees this harmless little monk as a viable threat.  It is uncertain at best that this decision will bear fruit.  After all, rumors of secret deals with Russia being drawn up in return for pulling our missile defense system were thought to be born of this sort of foreign policy as well.

Terming as “inaccurate” reports that Barack Obama has postponed his talks with the Dalai Lama, the White House has said the US President holds the Tibetan leader in great esteem and insisted that a meeting was never on the cards during the Nobel laureate’s current trip here.

It also said that a strong Sino-US relationship will help the cause of the Tibetan people.

“Tibetan people know that our strong relationship with China helps them,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters, as the mainstream US media tried to corner him on the issue of Obama postponing his meeting with the Dalai.

When he gets a grasp of foreign policy he will be ready to pack his bags. This man is clueless – or brilliant. Maybe hes just so smart we cant see what his plan is?

Never going to happen. I agree in that I dont think he is stupid, ignorant, or even foolish; I think he is more accurately characterized as Ronald Reagan once stated of Liberals. He said the problem with Liberals wasn’t that they were ignorant, it was that they simply knew too much. Obama has his mind on high ideals and can’t see the ham sandwich sitting on the table in front of him. NO change to come any time soon

I would not even care for a sec about this if it were not just another sign that Bammy is clueless. Predictions of his FP immaturity are coming home to roost
