The Bottom Ten: October 15, 2009

REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR WAY

1.  Olympia Snowe (Maine Senator) – Sided with the Dems in voting for the stimulus bill that changed America (unforgivable); voted to confirm Justice Sotomayor; she’s never getting off here til she pulls a Spector; this week she “courageously” voted for the Baucus Plan in the Senate Finance Committee giving Dems hope that their bill will be bipartisan when it reaches the full Senate.  She said she still had concerns about the bill, but she was willing to let it get out of committee.  Newsflash…it was getting out either way genious.  14-9 doesn’t exactly make you a swingvote, it makes you a supporter.

2.  Lindsey Graham (Senator South Carolina) – voted to confirm Justice Sotomayor; continues to personify the backwards and misguided centrist wing of the Republican Party.  Next time you’re at a Joint Session of Congress maybe you might want to grow a backbone before taking your chair.  How many times did you have to get caught looking around for when to clap?  Seriously man?  Now he joins forces with Senator Kerry to work on “Cap and Trade” – great call.

3.  Sarah Pailin (Former Alaska Governor) – stepped down unceremoniously… or rather simply without any good reason and seamlessly loaded the rifle for Libs in her march to the Republican nomination in 2012.  Perhaps we should be thanking her for this actually.  Can’t wait to read her book!!  Can she please find a new booking agent?  If she really misses half these events she’s supposed to be at someone needs to be fired.  PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE NEWS FOR LIKE A DAY.  If you want some credibility, stop making public statements and official releases via Facebook.  So your book has gone number one before it is released.  First tactical victory for you thus far – sell it before anyone can read it…Brilliant!!

4.  Mark Sanford (Governor South Carolina) – just won’t go away or ever shutup.  Take your medicine and realize that when Republicans fall…they fall extra hard.  Another press conference?  GO AWAY!!  Your “soulmate” is lonely find her and try not to speed along the way.  Pay your ticket like the rest of us and tell your driver to hit the brakes occasionally when he sees a State Trooper.

5.  John McCain (Arizona Senator) – ever the “Maverick” and always pulling to the Center; mismanaged an ill-fated campaign that will scar the Party until it has another crack at it in 2012.  Likely to stay on the list til that time and beyond.   He continues to run his Presidency in exile via the Sunday morning circuit by appearing more than 40 times on a variety of shows since his defeat.

6.  Susan Collins (Maine Senator) – joined her fellow Maine Senator in voting for the stimulus bill forever cementing her place on the list; voted to confirm Justice Sotomayor as well; has got to stop following Snowe off the cliff.  Just when I thought you may have come to your senses, you release a statement supporting Snowe’s Senate Finance Committee vote on healthcare.

7.  Bobby Jendal (Governor Lousiana) – was labeled as the “Future of the Republican Party” and did more damage than good in his first moment of glory – the primetime response to President Obama’s speech before a Joint Session of Congress.  Perhaps a few less “son of an immigrant” comments and an actual conservative agenda would have been more appropriate?  If only they would have went with that plan to hang the banner in the background that read “Republicans…Not just old White Guys anymore” he wouldn’t have had to connect the dots for viewers.

8.  George W. Bush (43rd President) – sorry W.  You’re gonna be on here a while.  “Stimulus” is a Republican word thanks to you.  Tee-ing it up for Obama to knock capitalism out of the park – not a good move.

9. RNC Chairman Michael Steele – I have never been a fan of Steele but I had intended to keep the list to actual elected officials, but since he’s the face of the Party I thought it was time to show him some respect.  We will ignore his history of ridiculous statements on waging an “off the hook” PR campaign for the Party or how he was going to “take it to the streets” – ok so I didn’t ignore it, but his recent efforts to inject himself into the healthcare debate are growing troublesome for the Party.  He is making promises that Republicans have no power to live up to.  I am glad that he has ideas, but maybe leave the actual policy to those who can make it and focus on that PR campaign for a bit that you promised us.  The new GOP website looks great too.  Its really nice how you told Liberals and Democrats to “fill it up” and they did.  Maybe you should try to get some Republicans to jump on there every once in a while.

10.  The Six Republicans who voted YEA for cloture on the radical Sunstein.  Collins (Maine), Snowe (Maine), Bennett (Utah), Hatch (Utah), Lugar (Indiana), and Gregg (New Hampshire.  Some of you are already on here but the others are on your way to a spot of your own.  Be patient.  The stink from this one is still lingering and will be ever more apparent in the months to come.

Dishonorable Mention:

Former Senators Bob Dole and Bill Frist for trying to sell books and re-introduce themselves amidst the healthcare debate and muddying the waters for the already inept Republican leadership on Capitol Hill.

Tom Delay (The Hammer) for Dancing With the Stars – one word - awful!!

Falling From the List….

Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) or Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), Congressman Boustany (R-Louisiana)– the Republican Response Congressman from Louisiana – see I knew he’d be easily forgotten.

Why must you always go after Senator McCain and Senator Graham. They have been lifelong Republicans and are nothing if not loyal party members.

Life Long Republicans? Loyal? You have to be kidding me

You truly need to do some historical analysis on the two senators you are defending here. I have seen behavior that would lead to a decidedly different conclusion.

PS I am glad you brought this back

Republicans have been in hiding. Hard to update this thing if they are all afraid to surface. The list was going to be just a blanket 1-10 saying all Republicans on Capitol Hill but I thought that would be rather boring

Your bottom ten and my top ten. Lets call this American democracy in action. How about changing the title Republicans who care about Americans?

    • T. CHRISTOPHER on October 16, 2009 at 10:54 am

I will pass but thanks for the suggestion

This is an administration that hasnt the slightest understanding of economics or business. The President has surrounded himself with ideologues and big thinkers who have developed elaborate theories on economics. They are unfortunately so set on high ideals that they cannot see the glaring reality that sits right in front of them.
