Big Week for Hoffman in NY-23 Race
The heavy hitters including Fred Thompson, Dick Armey, and Sarah Palin(yes via Facebook) in the endorsement game have contributed to what appears to be a surprisingly encouraging trend in the Doug Hoffman for Congress campaign in New York’s 23rd District. HotAir.com reported yesterday that Thursday alone – the day Palin endorsed Hoffman – the campaign brought in $130,000. This is unprecedented for a campaign that was doing everything its power to match the war chests of the DNC candidate and the Republican backed Scozzafava.
It should be noted that The Other McCain reported yesterday that Democratic candidate, Bill Owens, had raised more than $500,000 before last week but numbers for this week’s fundraising were not surprisingly hard to come by. This could either be really good or really bad for Hoffman. As I have stated before, Palin’s entry into this debate will bring with it large sums of money for the Hoffman camp, but it could very easily bring as much – if not more – to the Owens fund. It would be extremely detrimental to the Owens camp at this point to release these numbers as it would simply generate more support for Hoffman regardless of whether they are high or low.
As the special election date draws near, Hoffman will surely need every dime to fight off attacks from the Left who will undoubtedly turn his candidacy into a referendum on the conservative right rather than an Independent candidate running on a conservative platform. Frankly, they have to at this point. Look for both parties to try to push Scozzafava in the coming days – the RNC to convince her to step aside gracefully; and the DNC to encourage her to continue the fight to help split Republican votes. And don’t be shocked if our Fundraiser in Chief makes an appearance in the Empire State to add his name to the pool of endorsements. It would certainly be a nice little reality show in the making as Palin and Obama try to out raise one another.

I appreciate your coverage of this race and I am glad to see that you have chosen to support Hoffman without jumping on the Palin bandwagon that so many conservatives have chosen to sail upon
Big week for Hoffman? I call it a big week for Owens. His victory was assured when Palin entered this race. If undecided New Yorkers were on the fence, they just fell off on the side of the Democrat.
