Hoffman Now Leads NY-23

October 26, 2009

doug hoffman

It must have been quite a weekend for the Doug Hoffman for Congress campaign.  Its candidate now has the endorsement of most of the big players in conservative politics.  If you throw out the Gingrich endorsement for the oversite and sham that it is and the Michael Steele obligatory GOP ensdoresement, Hoffman is now the clear choice of conservative America.  Sarah Palin joined Fred Thompson and Dick Armey on the Hoffman bandwagon last week and the campaign saw its fundraising war chest filled to the brim seemingly overnight.  Add in a great deal of support just short of endorsement by Rush and Hannity and I think you could call it a pretty good week for Hoffman.

A great week turned into an even better weekend yesterday for the Hoffman camp as its candidate has now passed the Democrat and Republican candidate in recent polls.  Club for Growth is now showing Hoffman ahead by a narrow margin with 31.3% of the vote while Democrat Bill Owens has 27.0% and “Republican” Dede Scozzafava with 19.7% and 22% undecided. The poll had a rather small sample set, so no one should get overly excited just yet, but it is a great sign to see that he has now fully surpassed Scozzafava as the clear choice for Republicans.

In case you are unfamiliar with the Republican candidate here, have a listen to this and find out a little more about her position on abortion.  Lets just say Newt Gingrich has had some pretty terrible things to say about people in the past for far less.  Great call on that one Newt!!

So she’s prochoice. Does that mean she can’t be a REpublican?

I think if you read here often enough you will see that it is certainly not part of the litmus test with me. In fact, I don’t even believe in them. It is perfectly acceptable for a Republican to be prochoice as long as they have sufficient justification for it. I was merely saying that I believe Dede’s justification is a bit lacking.

Does anyone really know anything about Hoffman except that he is not Scozzafava? I am not being a cynic but I am just curious if everyone is just jumping on the badwagon with him.
