UPDATE:  The secret deal that didn’t exist and never really happened has reportedly now been rejected by Iranian officials today ruling out any plans to export Iran’s nuclear materials as part of any plan – secret or otherwise….

AP –

Iran’s foreign minister ruled out on Wednesday sending enriched uranium out of the country for further processing, effectively rejecting the latest U.N. plan aimed at preventing Tehran from building nuclear weapons.

There are increased rumblings that the United Nations is working on a secret deal with Iran to peacefully and quietly curb its nuclear weapons ambitions. The deal or the workings of a deal are obviously denied by all parties involved at this point, but it is reportedly being brokered by the Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency and would aim to achieve full cooperation from Iran with UN inspectors according to the London based The Times newspaper. (oh yes, we now have to strike deals with Iran to get them to cooperate and not violate international treaties to which they are a party) What does Iran get in return? Other than credibility and clout in a world where it formerly had none before it went rogue and tried to develop nukes, actually quite a lot for a nation who should be staring down the barrel of a gun rather than sitting across a bargaining table. In return for “cooperation” the UN Security Council would drop ALL sanctions against Iran and allow the crackpot nation to participate and share in a “Globally managed nuclear fuel bank” which would provide Iran with the nuclear material it needs for its “peaceful” programs. Sounds great right?

Remind me when the world changed and the criminals get to make the rules; the wrongdoers get to set the terms for the recompense; and the rogue nations get to determine which treaties they will violate and what the terms will be for their “cooperation” when they choose to ignore them altogether?

Haaretz:  The United Nations nuclear watchdog has vehemently denied a report in the British newspaper The Times that it had been holding clandestine talks with Iran over its nuclear program.
These talks, the report said, would “allow Tehran to retain the bulk of its nuclear programme in return for co-operation with UN inspectors.”

“These allegations are entirely baseless. It is regrettable that The Times should publish such a story without any effort to make a critical assessment of its source,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement published on its website.

The United Nations nuclear watchdog has rejected a newspaper report Tuesday that U.N. and Iranian officials held secret negotiations about a nuclear deal.

“These allegations are entirely baseless. It is regrettable that [U.K. daily] The Times should publish such a story without any effort to make a critical assessment of its source,” Gill Tudor, spokeswoman for the International Atomic Energy Agency, said.

The Times reported that secret negotiations had been held to try to seal a deal that would persuade world powers to lift sanctions and allow Iran to retain the bulk of its nuclear program in return for cooperation with the U.N. inspectors.

Why is it a problem for republicans when a world governing body exerts itself in international affairs? Why must the United States solve the world’s problems alone? I think this is a fantastic development and one that should be proudly supported as Americans need not find themselves in another war.

  2. [...] that is equally lacking in an appreciation for reality, and the second is that Iran has no intentions of abiding by the “rules” regardless of whether they are set by the UN or any other entity, [...]
