Senator Kit Bond (R-Missouri) had that quote of the day on the Senate floor as Republicans and Dem’s debated the motion to move to debate on Harry Reid’s healthcare bill. He said that they would be there long after Thanksgiving if they listed all the problems with the bill and stated, “Its sort of like a mosquito in a nudist colony, there’s so many targets to attack in this bill we don’t know which one to hit.” The vote lost its suspense before it reached conclusion as two key Senators revealed their decisions on the record through their remarks before the vote. Moderate Democrat Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas chose to support the Majority Leader’s bill even though it may cost her a re-election bid because many in her home state want no part of the healthcare takeover. The other “cliffhanger” came from Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu, who decided to come on board but said that her vote was not an endorsement of the ultimate legislation. Harry Reid and the Dem’s have to be more than frustrated with the Louisiana Senator as they added a controversial $100 million giveaway to Louisiana’s Medicare Fund and it still only bought them a procedural vote. What’s she going to ask for when the final roll call comes about? The motion to proceed passed with 60 votes. All Republicans voted against the motion.
