Clips From the Sunday Circuit: December 20, 2009

December 21, 2009

David Axelrod, Howard Dean, Olympia Snowe, Lamar Alexander, Mary Landrieu, Sherrod Brown, John McCain, Dick Durbin, and Jon Kyl discuss health care, Iran, the economy, and the charted course of our troubled nation with George Stephanopoulos, David Greggory, Bob Scheiffer, and Chris Wallace.  Assorted clips and transcripts here for your perusal.

THIS WEEK WITH GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS

The featured guest - David Axelrod – did his usual song and dance and reminded me yet again how much I absolutely hate this man with every ounce of my being.  He has a nerdy arrogance that makes me want to punch him the face every time I see him or hear his voice – yes I know I have some anger issues to work out but we all have our flaws.  Mine just happens to be loathing pompous douche bags named David Axelrod.  His appearance was rather scripted as it usually is when he decides to grace the Sunday Circuit.  He discussed the Senate health care plan and spent much of the time blaming Republicans for the inadequacies of the bill while praising it for all its greatness.  The most memorable moment of the whole interview was where he continued this contradiction by saying that the bill has the “imprint” of 60 men and women in the Senate.  He then remembered that there were actually 100 that get a vote there and reversed course to say that it had the “imprint” of “some” Republicans as well from those that worked on it in subcommittees.  Got to make sure that you can still call this thing bipartisan down the road.  Wouldn’t want to have a sound bite of him saying anything to the contrary now would we?

The final question before the douchebag departed referred to an interview Diane Sawyer recently had with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, where she asked him about the development of a “trigger” mechanism for a nuclear weapon.  He said that any such allegation was a “fabrication of the American government.”  When asked if the President would stand by a December 31 deadline for Iranian compliance, Axelrod gave the token appeaser/ pacifist answer and said that the “international community is going to have to deal with him if he doesn’t change his mind.  Sounds like a great plan.  Let the rest of the world  - that doesn’t give a rats ass  - deal with the nutbag.  He then went on to play the Bush left us with a pile of dog vomit card and said that when “we” took office (I didn’t know he was Co-President) Iran was “united” and the world was “divided.”  He says that its a credit to the administration because now Iran is “divided” and the world is “united.”  Where’s that unity been for the last six months while Ahmadinejad has been playing President Obama for a fool and dodging sanctions while growing his nuclear program?  Israel sleep with the radio on and make sure you can hear the missile sirens.

George then interviewed Senators Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Dick Durbin (D-IL).  I have to begin by mentioning that Kyl usually does a great job on these programs.  He stays on message and usually is a decent mix of informative and entertaining.  Durbin on the other hand sucks the life out of me with his every word.  Its no surprise that Dems only march their majority whip out once in a blue moon because he is absolutely out of his league even on the Sunday Circuit.  He is the embodiment of the POS politician in that he will admit in one breath that he hasn’t read a bill (as he did two weeks ago on the Senate floor) and then quote passages from it which were obviously copied and pasted into his blackberry on the ride over.  The guy is so intellectually handcuffed that he is completely incapable of generating an original thought.  When asked where the “transparency” went; why these bills weren’t being drafted on CSPAN like the President promised; his response was that the bill withe “the amendment” (as if there was just one) will be posted on the internet for 72 hours before the vote on Tuesday.  He made light of the fact that the “amendment” to which he was referring was 383 pages long and even admitted that he hadn’t read it.  When he was asked about the Medicaid takeaway that Senator Nelson scored for Nebraska, he said that he didn’t think Nebraska had a permanent agreement in the bill to which Senator Nelson reminded him it was on page 98.

Senator Kyl was rather subdued throughout the interview but he did win the hour by reminding the audience that the CBO said that it “could” be deficit neutral if and only if “things” happen that cannot be guaranteed to happen.  In short that means those “things” are not going to happen and this bill is going to cost 50 times what they say it will once it takes effect and is bastardized by future generations of democrats.

Watch this video here.  Yes they really suck.

MEET THE PRESS

David Axelrod made an appearance on this one too.  His remarks were the same blah, blah, blah, I’m full of crap nonsense that they were on This Week so just scroll back up if you want to know what he had to say.  Did I mention that David Axelrod sucks at life?

Howard Dean also dropped in to share some of his questionably sane ramblings with the American people.  He left the “We Haaaa’s” and the spontaneous shouting at home this Sunday but he did discuss his relative lack of sanity as it was called into question earlier in the week by David Axelerod.  Dean still stands firm that the bill is broken and should be started anew, but he was a bit perturbed that folks like John McCain were quoting him all week because of his statements.  When asked if he would leave the democratic party, he told Greggory that he had no intentions of leaving and that he would fully endorse the President in 2012.  Is it really time for that already?  The rest of the interview is mind numbing.  I posted it but listening to it is probably unnecessary, and make take you two or three steps closer to retardation but have at it.

FACE THE NATION

Bob Scheiffer began the show by giving us the run down.  The vote will be 7pm Tuesday evening; the bill will cost $871 billion; 31 million Americans will be covered under the plan; and it will be paid for by capping insurance company profits; taxing employer plans; and raising taxes for all Americans.  Could have really ended the program right there, but for some reason he chose to go on.  You got me.

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) shared the set with the broker of the Louisiana Purchase Senator Landrieu (D-LA) and Buckeye State windbag Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH).  I like to pick a winner when I watch these shows, and I’m admittedly biased, so I usually pick the Republican if its close; pick the Republican if its a blow out; and pick the Republican even if there’s not a Republican on the set.  That being said, I think the Republican won the day on Face the Nation as well – even if said Republican was Lamar Alexander.  I would have preferred to have picked a winner in the absence of a GOP spokesman – and I think it would have been pretty easy to do with the DNC choices present, but they gave us Lamar so that’s what we had to work with and I’ll pick my winners all the same.

Alexander said the CBO report shows that one trillion dollars will be cut from Medicare over the next ten years.  He said that about five times and then he threw in a couple of comments about the rush to a vote.  He could have pretty much left after that because I think he fell asleep for the rest of it anyways.  Landrieu and Brown then spent the rest of the segment playing with the numbers and reminding us all that this bill has been open to the American people since June.  They lost me with that one too because I know I have seen about 50 different versions of it in that time and there were ten times that many discussed, mentioned, or negotiated in that time.  In fact, I still don’t know that I have seen “the bill” because Harry Reid is likely dropping another amendment on it as I sit here typing.  Do they really think people are that stupid.  How do you add 4oo pages to something and then try to say that its not anything new.  If Tiger Woods’ wife Elin dropped 400 pages into their prenup, don’t you think Tiger might need to take a look at it given the circumstances of the last few weeks?  The sad part is, I think its pretty safe to say that Reid’s 400 pages will likely screw us far more severely than the drubbing Tiger is about to receive.

The rest of the panel was pretty much what you’d expect.  Brown and Landrieu blamed Republicans for slowing the bill and I am pretty sure that Brown is starting a petition to change the name of the party to the “obstructionists” because he said it at least 30 times in a 10 minute interview.  Landrieu even has the audacity at one point to defend the Louisiana Purchase saying that she couldn’t be persuaded by money or anything else if the bill wasn’t in the best interest of her constituents and “all the American people.”  Tell that to the South Dakota(ans) who will be paying for your little landgrab.

Olympia Snowe also made an appearance and for the first time in months sounded like a Republican again.  She was angry, bitter, and a little pissed off.  If she hadn’t sold her soul months ago I might actually like her.   She played their little game and then they screwed her when they realized it was easier to find Democrats willing to whore themselves out for pork than it was to bring her into their camp.  She was asked about her meetings with President Obama and specifically why he summoned her even after the 60th vote of Nelson had been secured.  She didn’t really give an answer – which means that the President was hoping to bring her on board so that he could call it “bipartisan” and she realized she was being used and said no.  She did however almost admit that she regretted voting for the bill in the Senate Finance committee because she said it has had more than 1200 pages added to it through the course of 500 proposed amendments.  I have no sympathy for her in that regard and will offer her no pass for her transgression.  She’s an idiot if she didn’t know that it would change dramatically when she voted for it in the first place.  That’s why it was so utterly ridiculous that she would attach her name to something that would get hacked away at over the next few months.

FOX NEWS SUNDAY WITH CHRIS WALLACE

The Sunday traveler John McCain made his weekly appearance on Fox this week and had very little if not nothing to discuss, but he did get asked about Sarah Palin’s hat of choice while she was vacationing in Hawaii.  He still sang her praises – even though he looks even more like a spineless loser to do so and appeared unwilling to throw her under the bus she deserves to have run her over for blacking out a McCain visor she wore on the beach.

STATE OF THE UNION

This show sucks in every way imaginable.  It offers nothing but liberals reacting to what was said on all the other shows of the day.  Essentially its the liberal equivalent of this weekly post.  Guess that makes me a hypocrite or at least a pompous A-Hole, but I really don’t care – the show still sucks.
