Democratic Senator Chris Dodd is expected to announce today that he will join North Dakota Senator Byron Dorgan and not run for reelection in 2010. While its certainly great to see Dodd go, this may turn out to be less of a victory for Republicans than it may seem at first glance. With his poll numbers in the tank and his constituents still disenfranchised by his decision to move his family to Iowa for a Presidential run in ’08, he was looking at a potential loss to a GOP opponent in the general election bid. Had he decided to seek reelection that Republican victory could have been expected, but a new Dem in the race may complicate things.
The reality here is that Dodd was likely pushed out by Dems or even the White House hoping to hold on to every seat for their once proud majority. Essentially Dems are getting out when they know they’re going to lose. Its actually quite honorable for them to fall on their own sword in such a manner. It would be nice if a few Republicans would do the same. A word of caution to all on the Right. Be cautious that you don’t get to excited about Dodd’s departure. I’m glad to see him go, but I would have much rather watched him lose to a Republican this Fall to make sure Dem’s lose control of that seat.
Another Black Conservative had the same idea: “So as we all cheer about another Dem biting the dust before 2010, let us take time to realize the threat these retiring Dems pose.”
Gateway Pundit is still happy to see Dodd go: “Dodd will now have more time to spend at his Irish cottage.”
Larry Johnson is scratching his head: “Interesting stuff. Early days

Another one bites the dust? How about another new seat does to Democrats?
Woman?? Are you drunk? I have read three of your comments and I have no idea what you’re talking about.
