The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart made an appearance on the O’Reilly Factor last evening and if you missed it you certainly have to give this video a few minutes of your time. The interview was part one of a two-part series with the second half airing tonight. They discussed a host of topics including his feelings on President Obama and Fox News with neither character pulling any punches. It may very well have been the best thing I have watched on Fox News in months. I must admit that I was torn going into the program as O’Reilly is without a doubt my hand’s down choice for least liked Fox personality and Stewart is one of the funniest men in the business. In terms of political comedy, he takes a back seat to only Dennis Miller, and I have no doubt that’s only because Miller tends to come down on my side more often than not. I know there are some of you that think Jon Stewart is the “enemy” and there are many more of you who think anyone who cracks jokes about Republicans must be a flaming Lefty. I get that, and I even agree that with you to the extent that I believe Stewart is probably slightly left of center with his writers being firmly planted on the Far Left; but…. that doesn’t mean he isn’t funny and it doesn’t make him anymore our enemy than that of the Left. His goal is laughter – not political victories.
I have been asked a number of times why I share so many clips from the Daily Show when many believe it is nothing more than Leftist propaganda. The simple answer is because its great television and I enjoy laughing about the crap I write about 7 days a week / 365 days a year. The real answer is that I think Republicans need to hear what “the other side” has to say about us from time to time because quite frankly some of the nonsense people defend, support, and promote in the name of Republicanism or Conservatism is absolute garbage and deserves the ridicule. Those of you who want to write Stewart off as an idiot because he disagrees with you, definitely need to give this clip a few moments of your time. If I was forced to measure intelligence based solely upon this interview, I don’t think I would be betting the house on O’Reilly. Jon Stewart more than holds his own in a forum that is anything but friendly.
