I lifted this video from HotAir and thought it was rather fitting with Tax Day approaching and all. For those of you racing to file your taxes last minute or for those of you who have already put that daunting task behind you, I think you will equally enjoy seeing how your hard earned tax dollars are being put to work. The piece focuses solely on the hidden costs related to compliance. The numbers are pretty staggering – and it doesn’t even begin to delved into the ridiculous costs related to the bureaucracy of the IRS. Have a look. Who knew there were conservatives – let alone attractive ones – in the Ivy League? I for one am very impressed.

Every product and service consumers buy have these extra costs embedded in the retail price, and not just from the manufacturer, but also from the distributor and every other middleman. The total cost is around $340 billion per year, which is an anchor on economic growth and productivity — and that’s not even considering the fact that the tax code has gotten so complex that not even the IRS can accurately answer questions about it any longer.
Thanks for sharing the video, Christopher. It’s simply disgusting to see how costly and time consuming it is for the average American citizen to make sure they are in compliance with the tax code. Somehow, I just believe that is the way it was meant to be.
I can’t say that I have a better plan. I can admit that, but having taken three semesters of tax in law school, I can say that I have no idea how to explain tax to anyone – and I once fancied myself a tax attorney in the making… Go figure.
