U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne was invited to testify but declined until he said he could provide more information regarding the listing of the polar bear as endangered. According to conservation groups, polar bears are threatened because their habitat, sea ice, is shrinking from global warming.

I am not quite sure how I missed this one yesterday, but as I was attempting to lick my wounds from hearing news of another John McCain nomination, I stumbled across this little gem of a story.  Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe, while speaking to an audience in Tulsa, called John McCain a “closet liberal” saying that he keeps getting re-elected because of one thing – “earmarks.”  I don’t know about you folks, but Inhofe just soared to the top of my favorite Senators list.  Taking a shot at enemy number one is always a good way to earn point in my book.  Closet Liberal – priceless…  I’d call it brilliant if Inhofe would have been just a tad more accurate and simply called him a “Liberal.”

Tulsa World:  Specifically, Inhofe was criticizing McCain’s opposition to earmarks, which Inhofe said are simply appropriations.

McCain came under heavy pressure from the right during his reelection campaign this year but is expected to win Tuesday’s GOP primary.
Inhofe did not mention Oklahoma’s junior senator Tom Coburn, also an opponent of earmarks.
Speaking to a Tulsa Metro Chamber breakfast, Inhofe was also critical of the Obama Administration and the Troubled Asset Relief Program, passed in 2008 to rescue the financial sector.
