In what looked like an overly dramatic b-list courtroom drama, nitwit glory-whoring attorney Gloria Allred proudly revealed a letter from the Social Security Administration that she alleges “proves” Meg Whitman is lying. In case you’re not up to speed on this story, California Republican candidate for governor, Meg Whitman has recently come under fire from an ex-housekeeper, Nicandra Diaz, represented by Allred who alleges she was denied compensation and mistreated by Whitman when she learned of her status as an illegal immigrant. Whitman has denied that she knew about Diaz’s lack of legal immigrant status and that she acted inappropriately toward her.
Sufficiently up to speed now? Oh and by the way… did I mention Whitman is running for governor? Can you say October Surprise?
This ridiculous story has hijacked California’s gubernatorial race since it emerged and is clearly an attempt to smear Whitman to potential voters – most notably the more than 20% of California’s electorate that happens to also be Hispanic.
Allred’s little “revelation” today was dubbed as the smoking gun against Whitman – who has volunteered to submit to a polygraph. Take a look at the letter that supposedly closed the book on this scandal. You can read the whole thing here… Via Memeorandum…

I know its not the greatest font for reading, but take another look at the line that says, “This Letter does not imply that you or your employee intentionally provided incorrect information about the employee’s name or SSN. It is not a basis, in and of itself, for you to take any adverse action against the employee, such as laying off, suspending, firing, or discriminating against the individual. An employer that uses the information in this letter to justify taking adverse action against the employee may violate state or federal law and be subject to legal consequences. Moreover, this letter makes no statement about your employee’s immigration status. ”
Some “smoking gun” right? TMZ has a 5-Minute Audio clip of a Conference Call with Allred today. (Via HotAir)
Whitman still denies that she ever saw the letter, but her husband who appears to have jotted a note at the bottom of the letter says it looks like his writing but doesn’t remember the letter. Allred claims that it is proof that the Whitman’s knew about Diaz’s status and are accordingly lying about their subsequent actions as well.
I walk away from this new “development” drawing two conclusions. The first is that Diaz (who obviously saved this letter for years) knew she could some day need leverage on her employer that she was laying to and deceiving from day one. I don’t know how Allred caught wind of her “plight” but her joining the cause clearly indicates that choosing to come forward amidst a gubernatorial run is the best possible use of that leverage imaginable.
Second. I love it when liberal Dems try to use stories such as this to win political battles and fail to see that doing so only loses them the war. How damning is this story to those who take the position that our Federal Government is doing all that it can to combat illegal immigration. This letter – if it is a “smoking gun” – is one that paints a picture of spineless inefficiency on the part of the Social Security Administration. Where’s the follow-up? Where are the repercussions for noncompliance? The letter clearly states what can happen to an employer but where is the language telling the employee to prove legal status or face deportation?
This story truly makes me laugh. While I do appreciate the gravity of it as it relates to the potential outcome of the gubernatorial race, this display from Diaz, Allred, and their cohorts reveals nothing except the lengths that despicable people will go to – to hijack an election, to make a name for themselves, and to cover their own illegal asses. What would wonderful people like Allred and those crying foul have liked the Whitman family to have done here? They asked for a Driver’s License and Social Security card. How many households conduct business with that level of meticulous attention to detail? I’d venture to guess not many. They followed the instructions in the letter and advised Diaz to correct the error. Receiving no further correspondence from the Social Security Administration, they assumed the matter was corrected. After all, the letter warned them NOT to take “adverse action” against their employee. What were they supposed to do? Fire her, push for deportation, and face summary judgment when they were sued for discrimination?
In a year where the Obama Justice Department has filed lawsuit after lawsuit challenging “discriminatory” statutes and actions taken by states acting in efforts to reign in illegal immigration, what logic leads despicable creatures from the Left like Allred to believe that they are acting nobly by implying that individual citizens owe a greater duty than states – which the federal government has time and again said have no such duty? This story makes me laugh. Not hah hah laughter; just the kind that makes you shake your head in wonder.

Poor Meg Whitman got her hand caught in the cookie jar. It is VERY hard to believe someone can work for you in your house for MANY YEARS and you not knowing the person was illegal alien. Is this the same Meg Whitman who forced many ebay sellers thoughout the years with strict guidelines and selling practices and code of ethics? What is even worse is the money spent in salary throughout all those years could have went to an AMERICAN USA CITIZEN.

“Rentalawyer” I fail to see your logic here. Can you smell an illegal alien? Can you sense their presence? How does one figure out an employee is an illegal alien if they fulfill all obligations under state and federal law and still come out unaware that said employee is illegal? What level of due diligence do you follow at your firm? I would love to know the steps that you take so that I can make sure that I never make Whitman’s mistake.
Great writeup! I’m including this at PJM on Wednesday
Awesome man. Many thanks.
