United Nations: Going Green to Cost $76 Trillion – No Thanks

July 6, 2011
By

Global Environmentalism Still thinking “Going Green” sounds like a great idea?  Maybe take a look at this report and see how you feel about it.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m a big supporter of localized recycling efforts  - except when their compelled and/or enforced with “legal” ramifications ala NYC.  I’m all for cutting back where cutting back is prudent; but let’s just be real about it.  That’s not what we’re talking about here.

FOX NEWS:  Two years ago, U.N. researchers were claiming that it would cost “as much as $600 billion a year over the next decade” to go green. Now, a new U.N. report has more than tripled that number to $1.9 trillion per year for 40 years.

So let’s do the math: That works out to a grand total of $76 trillion, over 40 years — or more than five times the entire Gross Domestic Product of the United States ($14.66 trillion a year). It’s all part of a “technological overhaul” “on the scale of the first industrial revolution” called for in the annual report. Except that the U.N. will apparently control this next industrial revolution.

The new 251-page report with the benign sounding name of the “World Economic and Social Survey 2011” is rife with goodies calling for “a radically new economic strategy” and “global governance.”

Throw in possible national energy use caps and a massive redistribution of wealth and the survey is trying to remake the entire globe. The report has the imprimatur of the U.N., with the preface signed by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon – all part of the “goal of full decarbonization of the global energy system by 2050.”

Make no mistake, much of this has nothing to do with climate.

The press release for the report discusses the need “to achieve a decent living standard for people in developing countries, especially the 1.4 billion still living in extreme poverty, and the additional 2 billion people expected worldwide by 2050.” That sounds more like global redistribution of wealth than worrying about the earth’s thermostat.

I’m sure some will say this is just another “scare tactic” being implemented by the Right.  Probably a fair point as well if by “scare tactic” you mean this report is really scary.  $76 trillion to do that which China will undo in a year.  No thanks.  Global redistribution of wealth through climate-change-environmental-awareness is not a cause I’ll be supporting any time soon.  Let our UN partners pick up the full tab if the cause is so worthy.  I’ll stick to throwing my Smart Water bottles in a separate bag, continue taking my recyclable bags to the grocery, and consider that my contribution to the cause.

One Response to United Nations: Going Green to Cost $76 Trillion – No Thanks

Obviously this plan is DOA. A better PLAN B (in the US at least) is to find a plan that dedicated AGW advocates and dedicated skeptics can and SHOULD embrace. The Let’s Make A Deal (LMAD) plan!

The LMAD plan imposes a 600 billion/ year carbon tax NOT to fight global warming BUT to BUY off Liberals. And that’s just the start… LMAD also adds fully-funded Healthcare for every American, a public option health insurance entity, and the implementation of tax schemes frequently advocated by Liberals such as a “sugar” tax and a value-added tax. The LMAD plan even grants overnight amnesty of 10 million illegal aliens.

THEN LMAD buys off Conservatives with much more than a balanced budget and limited government ; it permanently ends future illegal immigration, adds tort reform and completely replaces all taxes on production, labor, saving and investment with the new carbon tax, the value-added tax and the sugar tax. The LMAD plan even removes the burden of healthcare expenses from corporate balance sheets by ending our reliance on employer-provided health insurance.

So skeptics can in good faith support a carbon tax without having to endorse the theory of AGW.

Google LMADster for more info on the plan.

Better yet! Let LMADster write the next “World Economic and Social Survey 2012”!
