Newt Gingrich Goes After Media, Again at GOP Debate

Newt Gingrich Republican DebateNewt Gingrich was once again Captain of Team Republican Wednesday night at the Reagan Library MSNBC/Politico Debate going head-to-head with the “media” and not his fellow candidates for the Republican nomination.   When the out-of-his-league Politico moderator attempted to get Newt to weigh in on the health care wedge previously driven between Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry on the personal mandate/percentage of uninsured issue, Gingrich responded with this…

“I’m frankly not interested in your effort to get Republicans fighting each other.  You’d like to puff this up into some giant thing.  The fact is every person up here understands that ObamaCare’s a disaster…  It’s a monstrosity and every person up here agrees with that.”

He then took the objection a step further saying,

“I for one… and I hope all my friends up here… are going to repudiate every effort of the news media to get Republicans to fight each other to protect Barack Obama who deserves to be defeated; and all of us are committed as a team; whoever the nominee is; we are all for defeating Barack Obama

Fine points from Mr. Gingrich.  As I said in the debate recap, I do think playing the “pushback on the media” card is getting a little tired or at least heading that way, but I do believe Gingrich probably scored some points with viewers unaware that he took a similar position in the last debate.  Right-Wingers despise the MSM and nothing breeds more contempt than the thought of that institution working to protect or insulate Barack Obama.  I can’t say I believe the strategy will continue to work if he keeps going to that well, but I do commend him for capitalizing on the opportunity while it still exists.

[The] GOP presidential debate was less a debate and more of an inquisition by NBC’s Brian Williams and Politico’s John Harris. Both were more interested in peppering the candidates with liberal talking points and Democratic agenda items than in discussing the cornerstone issues of the day: jobs and the economy.

    The Republicans will not learn.

This was not to be a open national debate; it was to be a debate between Republican candidates for the benefit of Republican voters to aid in their choice of a Republican candidate to oppose the Democrat candidate.

So, why did the Republican candidates submit themselves to these liberal yahoos!

The Republican National Committee better get their act together. Stage a debate of the Republican candidates hosted and MC’d by Republicans if not conservatives!
    Not a liberal kabuki show!!!!!

    What the Hell!
