In full disclosure, I’m not a very bright man. I mean I’ve got degrees I could hang on the wall that could speak to my education, but they’re paper and their value is de minimus at best. What I’m talking about is actual “smarts” – you know the real stuff that makes one wise, plugged in, sharp, on top of things, in-the-know, informed, etc. I guess what I’m getting at here is I need a favor. I don’t ask for that sort of thing often around here. Frankly, I don’t ask for that sort of thing often anywhere. Nevertheless, I’m in desperate need and I’m hoping one of you can come to my assistance.
Will someone please share with me how this guy’s still polling well enough to be included in these debates?
Look, I’ve already told you I’m not that bright. I understand that my simple mind may just be missing something here. I assume he taps into the libertarian streak possessed by most conservatives, but how does anyone who supports his candidacy dot the i’s and cross the t’s; do the math; and weigh the pros and cons and not come to the conclusion that this thing’s unworkable?
I know I’m not a product of the dark side of the fourth planet in the galaxy where Ronulans come from, but I don’t think I’m all that crazy for thinking this campaign’s beginning to look…well, a little batshit crazy.
Watch this clip and (PLEASE) tell me how anyone would want this guy running the show… (H/T Gateway Pundit)
In a “period of economic turmoil” people may want to leave with their capital… and this wall… is going to keep them in? Again, call me stupid, naive, dumb, or even crazy; but if things really get so bad that Americans begin fleeing to Mexico with their life savings (capital), is a wall really that high on the list of things we’d have to worry about? I mean picture it for a moment – the American economy and/or government collapses and people are so desperate that they pack up everything they own of value – and they head to Mexico? Home of drug cartels, human trafficking, kidnapping, and undrinkable water? Yeah… that’s the first place I’d go.
What this most recent rant illustrates to me is why Ron Paul’s version of libertarianism sounds great in theory but comes off so absolutely ridiculous when viewed in the light of the “real world.” One second he’s got folks ready to buy into shutting down the TSA and pulling the plug on the Fed; and the next he’s talking about folks fleeing to Mexico only to get there and be repelled by a big friggin wall. I have to admit it’s entertaining. I just don’t understand how anyone sees it as anything more.
Maybe you can enlighten me.

I’m not a “Ronulan” either. But when I saw this video, I understood that what Ron Paul was saying is that in our zeal to protect ourselves from some of the unpleasant aspects of international trade or migration that the unintended consequence is that we can end up limiting our own freedoms.
He’s referring the fence as a metaphor for all the other protectionist initiatives that become popular solutions for perceived problems of the day.
So, in this case, the metaphorical fence that keeps the migrants out also creates and funds the Federal agencies that monitor and attempt to control overseas investment, and the importation of goods and services and labor.
It limits our personal freedoms here in the United States to prevent the free movement of people, ideas and investment across our borders.
Fair points “theDeal”. I suppose I could see your argument.
I watched the clip a few more times and I’m still not sure that I totally buy it, but it is a far better explanation than the one that immediately came to mind. Many thanks for your thoughts. They’re very much appreciated.
I think Paul is kind of a crank, but his words shouldn’t be ignored. We need to be very careful about who we put in office, because if we pick wrong, they will pick people who abuse that authority and act against us, as we’ve seen in the ATF lately.
Oh, it’s that wacky Dr Paul again! He says the darnedest things! Somebody just tell him he’s already President and give an office at the home.
Well it may be to keep us in,it sure is working on our side of the fence. . LOL . . I know what he means tho. . Mexico does not want us living there nor bringing our way of life to them,I do believe they built the first fence. . . When they hated grengois’
I’d like to add something.
Ron Paul always has a reasoning behind his statements. The Federal Government is keeping a closer eye on the population. Everyday, they are creeping in more. One day, a bad ruler could come up and do horrible things.
Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Peron, etc. People falsely believe it just couldn’t happen in their beloved U.S. of A. Not in the land of the free, by their own government. This is truly the dangerous belief, because such thing is withing the realm of possibility.
Let’s hope you don’t find yourself fleeing to the country you despise so much.
