President Obama’s Millionaire Taxing Economic Growth and Deficit Reduction Campaign Speech (VIDEO)

September 19, 2011
By

Obama Debt Reduction Speech President Obama in the Rose Garden Monday unveiled the details of his plan for “Economic Growth and Debt Reduction.”  I’ll give you the quick version just in case you’re not up to reading the rest.  It went something like this…

Millionaires, billionaires, multi-national corporations, oil tycoons, Wall Street fatcats, CEO’s, and Republicans – boo, hiss, yadayadayada…

Middle class, teachers, firefighters, policemen, veterans, sick children, starving babies, and Democrats – hip, hip, hooray!

Corporate giveaways, tax loopholes, billionaires paying no taxes, gaming the system; cutting Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and everything in between – that’s their plan.

Shiny new roads, shovel ready high-paid jobs, no new debt, non-controversial, bipartisan, absolute brilliance manifested – that’s our plan.

Now pass it. Let me sign it.  I’ve got the pens ready!!

We know what’s right.  It’s time to do what’s right.

Thanks and God Bless America – just not the Republicans – or the rich.

PS… And if Congress fails to raise taxes, I’m going to veto it.

Now for the slightly longer version.

Quite certain you skipped the video.  I only threw it in there because that’s the sort of thing responsible bloggers are supposed to do – give you the speech so you can draw your own conclusions without being influenced by my undoubtedly biased opinions.  I’m always surprised that as quick as I hit “post” on this story, I’ll receive an email from a loser Lefty telling me I’m “biased.”  Helloooo.  This site isn’t called “Right down the Middle.”  It’s a friggin Republican blog.  I’m not exactly coming at this business with a sense of objectivity and I really don’t think I’m trying to fool anyone hiding that fact herein.

That aside, even if I wasn’t a biased right-winger hellbent on ripping this President’s every word to shred, I’d still look at this speech for what it was – a campaign speech.  Make no mistake, that’s all it was.  I suppose because of that, one could argue – no harm, no foul.  He’s about to enter an election cycle where he’s pledge to raise and spend a billion dollars, AND he’s got a really big pool of Lefties pretty angry that he stopped driving that progressive freight train down main street.  He’s softened the tone and bipartisan’d the rhetoric leaving some to question what happened to the uber-liberal they sent to Washington.  This was simply his – hey I’m still here; and I’m still the guy that gave you health care moment – a reawakening if you will.

But yes, I know I’m a partisan hack; so how about seeing what a Lefty has to say about the new Obama strategy/proposal?

HuffPo:  Barack Obama is careening down the wrong path towards re-election.

He should be working as a president, not a candidate.

He should be claiming the vital center, not abandoning it.

He should be holding down taxes rather than raising them.

He should be mastering the global economy, not running away from it.

And most of all, he should be bringing the country together rather than dividing it through class warfare.

Class warfare?  Heard that kicked around a time or two.

Ace at Ace of Spades HQ doesn’t endorse playing that card, but he does conceded that it could potentially be effective.

Maybe my populism-sense is all screwy, but I do always think that that sort of thing should sell well with the public. Which isn’t an endorsement. I’m just noting I usually fear that that’s going to work, in inciting class-warfare sentiments against the GOP.

No I think Ace’s “populism-sense” is probably reading this accurately.  Like I said above, this speech was a campaign speech; and as we all know too well, campaign speeches very often appeal to the lowest common denominator.  The folks that “needed” to hear President Obama talk about “taxing the rich” just got their annual fill of the Lefty good-stuff.  He knows he can’t get a tax increase passed during a recession – certainly not by this Congress.  He’s just playing the card now so he can look like he “tried” for the mindless morons who buy into the idea that taking from the rich and giving to the poor is really a practical solution outside of the Kevin Costner movie where he most regrettably wore green tights.

This was a show – just like it was undoubtedly a show back in August of 2009 when he said “The last thing you want to do is raise taxes in a recession.”  I really bet he wishes he could get that interview scrubbed before Fox News runs it 40 million times in the weeks to come.

As to the proposed “Millionaire’s Tax” or Buffett Rule discussed in the speech and “leaked” over the weekend… I think we’ve more than covered the ridiculousness of the anecdotal story that this administration and the Left love to tell about Warren Buffett’s secretary paying more in taxes than he does.  But on a side note – How that poor woman hasn’t quit at this point for being so grossly underpaid is beyond me.  He makes truckloads of cash, uses her to sell his brand politics, and she still has to bring him coffee?  Yeah, that coffee might have more than Splenda in it by the time I got it to his desk.

For what it’s worth, I’m not one of those who has convulsions at the thought of typing the words – rich people.  There are some rich folks in the world and many of them have in fact figured out how to “game the system.”  AND… they’re not all “job creators.”  That line irritates me almost as much as the lefty “new revenue” nonsense.  That may be the only point of this speech that both President Obama and I agree on.  Where we part ways is with the idea of taxing them as an answer for how to pay for more government spending.  Throw out the current tax code, lower rates across the board, engage in a real dialog about creating a more workable system for future generations… those are the solutions.  Simply taking another shot at the wallet of the “rich” is only a short-term fix and one that at some point is no longer an option.  You can only take so much from one group of people before they start taking their money elsewhere.  Ask New York how over-taxing the wealthy’s working out for them.

In a nutshell here, I wouldn’t get too worked up about the latest display of President Obama’s absolute lack of rhetorical talents.  The Teleprompter-in-Chief left the Press waiting in the Rose Garden Monday much like he’s left the rest of us waiting for nearly three years for him to get his head out of his arse.  The once “brilliant” and “articulate” change-agent has proven himself to be completely ineffective at moving anything through a split-partied Congress.  This is certainly not going to be the exception.

DOA.  Period.

Ha. Sorry I missed this earlier. But you’d be amazed by the emails I get around here. Maybe my address is too public. Heck I don’t know. I’m lucky to get a handful of comments on a good day – not Palin related, but let me write something and word it like a “news story” and all I get is emails as if I’m the New York friggin Times or NBC. Who are these folks? Do they read the email address they’re sending these things to?
