I have to commend the Perry camp for marching on as if their campaign for the Presidency began yesterday with a fresh start – and didn’t spend two months moving in the wrong direction. It seems the Texas Governor has turned his attention to Iowa and the first major test of whether his campaign war chest will amount to actual results before primary season heads further South – Iowa. His campaign has released a new ad that will begin airing Wednesday in the Hawkeye State that will likely be the first of a series of ads targeting Iowa Republicans in the run-up to the new year’s contest.
On the whole, I happen to come from the camp of those who despise political television ads. Frankly, unless they’re brilliant, they typically incite the opposite reaction from me than was intended. I go from loving a candidate to laughing at him/her in a 30-second spot. That said, they work. They motivate the base and they bring people to the voting booth; and the Perry camp knows it. So, expect many many many more from Team Perry in the weeks to come.
As to this ad, specifically… Having already told you my standard, I think you can probably guess how I come down on it. Ed Morrissey thinks it’s pretty “effective”, so I’m inclined to defer to me betters and assume that he’s right. My typical reaction to these things being rather unconventional, I generally assume that if I “hate it”, my fellow right-wingers will love it. If Morrissey’s opinion and my gut hold true, I’m fairly confident Perry’s found a winner.
Gotta love that closing line…
“That will create jobs and reduce our reliance on oil from countries that hate America.”
Can’t help but think Perry’s on the verge of a Mays Gilliam moment and a line like “God Bless America and no place else.”
This is Nov.1 an Perry delivered his drug/drunken speech on stage in New Hampshire.He is toast, it is over for this loser. His flat tax with the option to stay in our existing tax plan is shear insanity. The government would go broke and those that could hire tax lawyers,the wealthy and corporations would opt out of the flat tax.Perry has too much negative baggage that is yet to be vetted to ever become president. He could never win a national election , he cannot carry the Independents because he and the rest of the candidate with the exception of Romney are supported by bible thumping religious fanatics and tea bagging lunatics.America is fed up with the debacle created in the House of Representatives by the tea baggers(my way or the highway, no compromise crowd). Most Americans know our government can’t operate with out compromise. We must dump the crazies in 2012 along with any candidate backed by them.
