Jon Huntsman’s Daughters on Face the Nation, Viral Cain Ad Spoof

November 6, 2011
By

As many of you probably know, I feel regrettably compelled to watch the Sunday Political Talk Shows every weekend even though their content is typically both skewed and dated.  Call it a sick obsession or whatever you’d like.  Either way, my Sunday list of to-do’s always includes Face the Nation, Meet the Press, Fox News Sunday, This Week, and the occasional State of the Union or McLaughlin Group.  I’ll let you guess how that ritual is received by those who share my Sunday Mornings.

I offer that trivial insight into my terribly exciting weekend activities only for the sake of also sharing with you that I also realize how ridiculous these programs really are.  They – and the people that participate in them – are supposed to be the biggest players in the political news business, yet the topics they discuss are rarely timely or covered with even a hint of objectivity or journalistic integrity.  And yes, that includes Fox News as well.

They pluck out the most talked about stories of the week and they kick them around with their round tables, panels, and forums as if they are some how the chosen few who get to determine the winners and losers of the political news week.

As I began my weekly ritual this week (Saturday afternoon when I check the line-ups), I was both entertained and amused by seeing the inclusion of Jon Huntsman in the field of guests.  Dude’s polling South of 1% in most national polls.  He’s been all but dismissed by Republican voters in every sense of the word dismissed, yet Meet the Press was still going to give him half their program to talk about his campaign?

Yeah, I wasn’t buying it either; but yes, I watched.  I watched and I still haven’t the slightest clue how he’s still in this race or why David Gregory would want to interview the guy in the first place.  Frankly, I can’t figure out if Huntsman’s four years late to this party or if his time is still 40 years into the future when a third party or something similar will make viable a candidacy of his composition.  I suppose in the grander scheme of things, I really don’t care either way.  And I don’t think I’m going that far out on the limb assuming most of you don’t really care either.

And that my friends is why this segment of Face the Nation made my flippin head feel like it was going to explode…

Huntsman’s daughters?  Are you kidding me?  Talking about their “smoking ad?”

I will; however, concede one thing.  At least one of them may actually be “smoking.”
