Words Worth Eating?
Conservative columnist and Fox News contributor stopped by The O’Reilly Factor Monday night to discuss the budding standoff with the Iranian regime; but was asked to give a 90-second summary of his thoughts on Tuesday’s Iowa Caucus and the race for the Republican nomination.
“I will tell you that Win, Place and Show, everybody knows – Romney, Santorum, and Ron Paul. And I’m not sure it’ll matter either way. Because Santorum has a 1 in 50 chance of winning the nomination. Paul has zero chance.”
“It would mean that Santorum would become the major sparring partner for Romney in the later states. The real issue is Newt and Perry. Do they finish fourth or fifth and do they finish near the top three or not because that will determine? Iowa never appoints. It winnows. And this will be a winnowing process.”
I’m inclined to agree with Mr. Krauthammer across the board here. I don’t see any path that leads to a Ron Paul nomination, period. I do think Santorum has a slightly better than 1 in 50 chance, but not much better. Like I said, slightly.
As to Iowa, I too think Romney will win and Santorum will likely finish second – maybe third – with Paul taking the other spot. I see Newt as a close fourth and Perry in fifth narrowly nosing out Bachmann.
But I’ll also do you one better and go a step further. I think this thing will come down to a 23-21-18-17-11-09 contest. (1 % to fringe and write-ins) In a nutshell, there may be no “winnowing” til South Carolina.
