It’s in no way the NFL Draft; or even the NBA Draft for that matter; but the MLS Super Draft was conducted Thursday in Kansas City and Duke’s Herman Trophy Winner, Andrew Wenger, was taken with the first overall pick by expansion club Montreal Impact. He will join the club after a brief stint with the US Men’s U-23 team and will immediately have to begin learning French. Oh the perks of being drafted by a French-Canadian club…
The Hermann Trophy winner as the top NCAA player, Wenger was the ACC defensive player of the year last season and offensive player of the year this season, finishing with 17 goals and eight assists.
“We have a lot of potential,” said Wenger, who plans to join the new MLS club in a couple weeks, once his responsibilities with the U.S. men’s national under-23 team are through. “It’s exciting.”
