Senator Rick Santorum “stopped by” ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopolous for a quick interview and a recap of his third place finish in South Carolina. After accidentally slipping at the beginning of the interview calling Santorum’s finish a “third place win”, Georgie abruptly corrected himself saying “not a win at all.” He then turned to the exercise of asking Santorum when and where he plans to drop out of the race.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a race that allows for a conservative or a group of conservatives to be able to challenge Mitt Romney’s mighty war chest, but how anyone could in good faith assume Rick Santorum should go at this point is absolutely laughable to this conservative. Dude won Iowa. Romney won New Hampshire. Gingrich won South Carolina. How bout we let at least one of these candidates claim a second victory before we start playing the it’s time to go game with any of them. And that doesn’t even begin to address the question of whether Santorum leaving would actually make the race a choice between a moderate and a conservative – a point Senator Santorum raised with Georgie.
“A lot of conservatives are concerned about the choice between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich because in their opinion – and in mine – that’s not a choice between a conservative and a moderate. It’s a choice between a moderate and a erratic conservative.”

What he says may very well be true, but he can’t win. So what would be the point?
Keep the faith. I’m in no way a Santorum “supporter” but I am supremely confident that this primary campaign is one that will be full of surprises. Last man standing may be a bit of an overstatement. If this thing makes it to March, it may be last man willing to stand up and continue.
