Clint Dempsey Scores Stoppage Time Goal for Tottenham to Tie Manchester United (VIDEO)

Clint Dempsey… Greatest American Soccer Player, Ever?

The case could certainly be made.  Save for a handful of goalkeeping talents that have managed to have success abroad over the years, the case is pretty much closed; or at least closing, fast.

ESPN:  Clint Dempsey struck two minutes into injury time for Tottenham to secure a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at White Hart Lane.

Robin van Persie had put the league leaders on course for a vital win when he scored his sixth goal against Spurs, but after a sustained period of pressure, Dempsey delivered Andre Villas-Boas’ men a thrilling equalizer with less than 60 seconds of the match remaining.

The American, who had missed a gilt-edged chance earlier in the second half, got on the end of Aaron Lennon‘s pull-back and slotted home after David De Gea had gone walkabout.

Dempsey should have equalised in the 52nd minute when he picked up Mousa Dembele‘s pass following a mazy run by the Belgian, but De Gea saved with his legs.

Sir Alex Ferguson then aimed his ire at Chris Foy after the referee failed to award United a penalty when Wayne Rooney, who had come on after 60 minutes, went down in the Spurs box.

And with two minutes and four seconds of the three added minutes gone, Dempsey popped up in the box and stabbed home after De Gea had flapped at a cross.

I’ve finally found the video.  You’re going to have to forgive me for the video quality here.  To call it poor would be an understatement.  And if you need to hear the play-by-play in English, you were probably not the kind that’s going to watch this video in the first place; so deal with it.
